Dr. Lee Oi Kum is a third generation immigrant Hakka Chinese, born in Ipoh, Malaysia. She graduated from the University of Singapore as a medical doctor and practiced for several years before joining the family holding company, Taiko Group, as a director, along with her four siblings. An entrepreneur in her own right, she started an IT out-source company , a plantation management systems service company and barter trading network, among other initiatives.
As a mother of three adult children who have their own families, and 4 grandchildren , Dr Lee has over the past two years focus her attention on planning for succession legacy , involving her own children who are in the fourth generation – the next Gen.
The Taiko group has a legacy from the founder Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng and Puan Sri Leong Wan Chin , of“ GIVING” to the Malaysian community through the Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Foundation . This value of social commitment for the community is carried through the current generation with various charitable projects under the banner of the Taiko group. Dr. Lee is an active member of the NGO Asia Philanthropy Circle based in Singapore , the Family Business Network Asia ( FBNA) Philanthropy interest group , the initial supporter of Ashoka Network in Malaysia, and is part of the Karuna Medical Mission Team operating in the Himalaya states of Sikkim and Nepal. Her vision and mission in the area of philanthropy is to ensure her next generation is mindful of the value of social commitment apart from business commitment.
